Year 7

Students in the Middle Years are provided with learning that is relevant, purposeful and connected.

The essential elements of the Middle Years program are:

  • starting from the students' prior knowledge
  • learning to learn, learning to think
  • collaborative team approach – teachers and students
  • focus on relationships between students and teachers
  • cross-curricular, interdisciplinary and integrated learning approaches
  • authentic assessment, product orientated learning, exhibitions of learning, real life contexts

Students undertake Progressive Assessment Tests (PAT) in term 3.

Each year 7 class stays together for Mathematics, Science, English, HASS, Health and care group. Each class has two teachers that stay with the class for these core subjects.

There are six scheduled lessons a week for the core, including one care group lesson which focuses on student wellbeing.

In addition to the core subjects students in year 7 will also develop specialised skills in:

  • Language (full year): students can choose from French, Japanese, Spanish, Chinese or Indonesian
  • The Arts (one semester)
  • Technologies (one semester or full year for Music*)

Within The Arts and Technologies students can choose from the options below.

Students who choose Music choose both semester 1 and semester 2 (these students will be doing an extra elective unit). Music is chosen at either Year 7 or Year 8.
