Who is this course for?

Students who wish to begin their study of Japanese at senior secondary level. Students need to verify they have little or no prior knowledge of the Japanese language.

Enrolment is subject to eligibility criteria set by the SACE Board (contact OAC for details) and subject entry is to be negotiated with an OAC Languages leader.

Students are expected to develop their skills and intercultural competency quickly, and therefore the course progresses at an accelerated and intensive rate.

This course has a pathway to Stage 1 Japanese Beginners B and Stage 2 Japanese Beginners.

What will I learn?

Students are expected to develop and apply their linguistic and intercultural knowledge, understanding, and skills to:

  1. interact with others in Japanese in interpersonal situations
  2. create texts in Japanese for specific audiences, purposes, and contexts
  3. analyse texts that are in Japanese to interpret meaning.
  • The Personal World
  • The Japanese-speaking Communities

How will I be assessed?

Students will demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types:

  • Assessment Type 1: Interaction
  • Assessment Type 2: Text Production
  • Assessment Type 3: Text Analysis
