Term 3 Stem Conference Highlights
Posted on October 30, 2025

Three OAC students attended the 2025 “STEM for a Changing World” conference at Adelaide Oval. The conference explored how educators can equip students with the skills, adaptability, and creativity needed to thrive in an ever-evolving world.
Maddi, Matilda and Elyce attended and heard key note speakers Jakirah Telfer, who in 2022 co-designed Port Adelaide AFLW’s inaugural Indigenous jumper. Together, the sisters co-founded Ngarrata – meaning ‘spine’ or ‘backbone’ – a business grounded in identity, art and cultural knowledge. We also heard from Justyce Manton, a proud Eora-Wiradjuri woman and an Electrical and Electronic Engineering student at Adelaide University.
We then attended sessions on sustainable food. The afternoon address was from Mitchell Odegaard, a proud Larrakia man born in Adelaide on Kaurna Country. During senior secondary, Mitchell was awarded a STEM Scholarship, and finished his university studies in June 2024, where he completed a Bachelor of Civil Engineering with Honours.
On the second day we had an address from Uncle Mickey O'Brien and participated in Boomerang making. The day was concluded with a performance by Dem Mob who rocked the house with their beats and Indigenous language raps.
