It was fantastic to see so many students and parents in attendance at the second Come In Day for years R-9 on July 3. I think we broke a record!
We know and appreciate some of you have a long distance to travel and we appreciate you taking the time to join us – thank you. Thank you to all the staff at OAC who helped and participated. Everything ran very smoothly.
The day began with the Opening of our fantastic Art Exhibition by Lyn Kelly. The Student Voice organised the exhibition along with Heather Tonkin. There were a huge number of exhibitors and the quality of the work was outstanding. Congratulations to all the students who submitted a piece of Art.
The theme for our Come In Day was Space. We had the Space Dome here and ran workshops for the students. Each student participated in the dome and then had the opportunity to do Art with Lyn Kelly, Rocket Making and cooking activities. The result was a lot of fun.
A big thank you must go to Lyn Kelly once again, who provided us with many resources and also her time, skills and knowledge. The students love working with her. Students had a fantastic time and it was wonderful to see students of all ages working collaboratively and encouraging each other in the sessions. Many of the teachers commented on how lovely it was to see our students having such a good time and how impressed they were with the student’s skills.
While the students participated in the activities, parents had the opportunity to attend a forum with Keith looking at helping students with their numeracy. If you would like further information on this you can contact Keith Hughes at the school.
It was excellent to see students mixing together and forming friendships. The fun and laughter from the students set the tone of the day and it was an enjoyable experience.
We look forward to seeing as many of our students and parents who can attend our next come in day which is on Thursday the 25th of September this term.
