Wallaroo Primary School is currently participating in the Language Partnership Program, learning Japanese with OAC. Wallaroo PS teacher, Jessica Patrick has written about the lessons so far for their Newsletter:
Japanese with Ms Patrick
This year at Wallaroo Primary School we are taking a new adventure in our learning with the introduction of Japanese. My Name is Jessica Patrick and I would like to give you a little insight into our exciting Japanese lessons. The program consists of a 30 minute online video call with our Japanese teacher Miss Hall, where we participate in interactive activities which allow us to learn Japanese vocabulary. We then complete 30 minutes of follow up activities were we practice our Japanese writing for the vocabulary we are focusing on. The students have been very excited about their new learning in Japanese, which has seen all students learning at an impressive rate.
The students in Rooms 1, 2 and 3 have been focusing on counting from 1-10, with the help of some interactive songs and actions to help us remember the numbers we are counting. We can also say “my name is ____”, which is tricky because girls and boys say a word differently.
The students in Rooms 5, 6 and 7 have learnt to count from 1-10 without any help from our interactive songs, we even know all the actions that go with the numbers. We are learning how to introduce ourselves in Japanese, and with some visual clues we are able to say “good morning, my names is _____, pleased to meet you”. Our new challenge is to learn how to ask each other their age and respond to the question.
