Welcome back to Term 2

Resources for term have been sent out as they are organised by the teachers. If you have any queries regarding any of the items, please contact the library.

National Simultaneous Storytime

This annual event will be held on Wednesday 22 May this year. We will be joining in with over 1 million others around Australia reading the same book at the same time. The story this year is “Alpacas with Maracas” by Matt Cosgrove. More information will be available from the library and from teachers closer to the event.

Premier's Reading Challenge

Well done to the students who have already completed the challenge for 2019. The aim now is to keep on reading. During the term there will be some supplementary challenges organised by the PRC group and information regarding those will be shared as they become available.

The PRC form for your year level can be downloaded from the Library page on the OAC website Go to the Library page

Completed forms need to be returned to the library by September. Please contact the library if you would like books sent out to read for the challenge.

Trove

Have you used Trove? The National Library of Australia has a treasure trove of resources and many of them are online. You can find photos, diaries, letters, maps, historic newspaper and magazines and much more. Students are able to use the resources for a variety of subjects from History, Research Project, English etc. You can access Trove from the Library Page on the OAC website Go to the Library page

It is preferable to log on with the user name marden and the password library and click on Available Online. Perhaps try searching for someone in your family or the town you live in – it is amazing what you can find on Trove.

Displays and other activities happening in the library

For the start of term 2 we have organised a range of displays to promote various events, eg, History Month and the new season of Game of Thrones. The welcoming entrance displays invite you to be the reason someone smiles today and promotes the opportunity now the weather is changing to try a book in a warm spot. The State Library currently has an exhibition highlighting the career of local author Phil Cummings so we are promoting the exhibition and his extensive collection of books he has written for children of all ages. Photos of our displays and other library events are up on the @mardenlibrary Twitter account.
