Max's Creative Arts

Audrey

Max is a Year 12 student studying a number of subjects at Open Access College. One of those subject is Stage 2 Creative Arts. Max is involved in the Performing Arts and the Theatre, and chose to study Creative Arts to further develop skills in these areas – specifically focussing on set design, puppet design and prop design.

‘I am a member of three theatre groups in my local town and I work in the theatre on the tech crew. I really enjoy being part of a team and working on a show from information night through to final performance. I have made some great friends and have learned many valuable skills.’

Some of the other skills that Max has been developing in Creative Arts are designing an overall look for shows, sourcing materials, working within a budget, designing and constructing set pieces, working effectively with a production team and investigating various construction techniques.

‘Starting from scratch is a bit daunting at first but I started by looking at other productions of the show, drawing up my concepts, planning my tasks one by one and experimenting with materials. These processes have helped me succeed. ’

As part of the Creative Arts Investigation, Max has researched Black Light Theatre which is a genre of theatre that can create theatre magic.

‘I used some UV light reactive puppets in a production of Seussical the Musical last year. The potential of this art-form to trick the audience into seeing the impossible just fascinates me.”

Upon completion of year 12 Max hopes to continue to work in the entertainment industry, 'I would love to keep exploring, acting and doing backstage tech particularly in the country, where audiences deserve a wide range of live entertainment instead of having to travel to the city all the time.’
