Who is this course for?

Students interested in working with various traditional media including: pen, pencil, paint and oil pastels to create artworks.

Students interested in learning how to improve their art through various drawing techniques and application of the 7 elements of art.

What will I learn?

  • Implement the 7 elements of art in your own artworks
  • Experiment with a number of different media throughout the course
  • Plan your art-making in response to exploration of techniques and processes used in your own and others artworks
  • Identify and analyse how other artists use visual material to communicate their ideas

How will I be assessed?

Assessment will be all about exploring, experimenting and developing your own creative ideas.

  • Creative Folio – Build a folio of weekly creative challenges exploring the Elements of Art, with fun prompts designed to stretch your creativity, encourage experimentation and help you make sense of your learning.
  • Artist Profile – Research an artist whose work inspires you, investigate their ideas, techniques and style, and use what you discover to inform and influence your own creative practice. As the famous saying goes, “Good artists copy, great artists steal” — the trick is knowing how to make those ideas your own!
  • Independent Artwork – Bring everything together in an independent artwork that showcases your ideas, experimentation and creative process, drawing on the different approaches to ideation explored throughout the course.
