Who is this course for?

Students who are interested in contributing to and influencing society using mathematical approaches especially in business and technology. It leads to Stage 2 General Mathematics or Stage 2 Mathematics Essentials.

Numeracy is a compulsory 10 point component of the SACE. It is achieved by gaining a C grade or better in any one of the Stage 1 Mathematics courses.

What will I learn?

You will study topics that support your:

  • capacity to problem solve and apply your mathematical knowledge
  • ability to approach new challenges by investigating, modelling and reasoning
  • communication skills to describe the relationships observed in situations requiring mathematical reasoning

The topics studied are:

  • Linear and Exponential Functions and their Graphs
  • Matrices and Networks
  • Applications of Trigonometry

How will I be assessed?

You will demonstrate evidence of your learning assessed as Stage 1 through four assessments (two assessment types):

  • three Skills and Applications Tasks (SATS - supervised tests and/or investigations)
  • one Mathematical Investigation

A pass at Year 10 Mathematics is assumed

It is recommended that students have their own CASIO Graphics Calculator (Casio fx-9860G AU plus, fx-CG20AU or the latest fx-CG50 AU)
