Who is this course for?

Students who desire to explore the Indonesian language and culture further, and to be more confident in communicating in Indonesian. Students develop their skills to communicate meaningfully with people across cultures. Students are given opportunities to develop knowledge, awareness, and understanding of the Indonesian language and culture in relation to their own. Students reflect on their own attitudes, beliefs, and values, and develop an understanding of how culture and identity are expressed through language.

Enrolment is subject to eligibility criteria set by the SACE Board (contact OAC for details) and subject entry is to be negotiated with an OAC Languages leader.

What will I learn?

Students are expected to develop and apply their linguistic and intercultural knowledge, understanding, and skills to:

1. interact with others to exchange information, ideas, opinions, and experiences in Indonesian

2. create texts in Indonesian to express information, feelings, ideas, and opinions

3. analyse texts that are in Indonesian to interpret meaning

4. examine relationships between language, culture, and identity, and reflect on the ways in which culture influences communication.

How will I be assessed?

School Assessment -70%:

  • Assessment Type 1: Folio, consisting of an oral interaction, text production and text analysis - 50%
  • Assessment Type 2: In-Depth Study, consisting of an oral presentation in Indonesian, a written response in Indonesian and a written reflective response in English - 20%

External Assessment -30%

  • Assessment Type 3: Examination - 30%
    • The oral examination takes approximately 15 minutes and has two sections:
      • Section1: General Conversation
      • Section2: Discussion of the In-depth study
    • The 2 hour electronic examination, plus 10 minutes reading time, has three sections:
      • Section I: Listening and Responding
      • SectionII: Reading and Responding
      • SectionIII: Writing in Indonesian
