Science Week 2025 - Incursion

As part of National Science Week 2025, students in Years 7–10 are invited to take part in a range of activities during the Science Week Celebration at Open Access College. This celebration offers students the chance to explore and 'decode the universe', reflecting this year’s National Science Week theme.

Date: Thursday 28th August 2025

Time: 10:00am - 2:00pm

Session times / program:
10:00 am - 10:50 am – Introduction Session (Introducing the theme of the National Science Week) and exploring Quantum Mechanics.
10:50 am - 11:20 am – Exploring Seed Shapes
11:20 am - 11:50 am – Recess/Break
12:20 pm - 1:20 pm – Laser Diffraction Practical
1:20 pm - 1:50 pm – Pinhole Camera Fun Activity
1:50 pm - 2:00 pm – Dismissal

Students to bring: Recess, Lunch and drink bottle.

Complete the EdSmart Consent form by Wednesday 26th of August.

Photos may be taken by staff at this event and published on our website and Facebook page. If you have returned a media consent form at enrolment for 2025, no further action is needed. You can confirm whether a media consent form is on file by checking the Daymap Connect Parent Portal. If you are unsure how to do this, please refer to the guide, Daymap – Using Parent Portal, available here.

In line with our mobile phone policy, students will not be able to use their mobile phones during the event. When they arrive, they will be asked to place their phone in a Yondr Pouch, which they will receive at Student Services when signing in. The pouch will remain on their person and locked for the duration of the event. Before leaving, students will need to go back to Student Services where the pouch will be unlocked. To attend: Students will be required to organise their own way to and from Open Access College.

Students will need to arrive before 9:40 am and sign in at Student Services before meeting their teacher/s and making their way to TA 3 Board Room. Students will be required to sign out at Student Services before leaving at 2:00pm.

Financial assistance is available for students where Open Access College is the enrolling school and who live 80km from Adelaide CBD to attend face to face events.
