Who is this course for?

Students who enjoy photography and want to use their photographs for graphic design purposes. There is a major emphasis on image manipulation with Adobe Photoshop. Students work on developing their skills in Adobe Photoshop and design products. Therefore, the subject is suited to students who are comfortable exploring computer software independently. It is an expectation in year 12 that students spend at least four hours per week on Photography and Graphic Design outside of lesson time.

What will I learn?

In Stage 2 Photography and Graphic Design students develop their photography skills by paying particular attention to image capture techniques to improve their photographic compositions.

A major part of the course focuses on working with Adobe Photoshop to manipulate images and to enhance them for graphic design purposes. Your photographs will form the basis of this section of the course.

How will I be assessed?

Skills and Applications Tasks - 20%

  • A photo shoot demonstrating a series of image capture techniques
  • The creation of 2 composites using Photoshop manipulation techniques

Resource Study - 30%

  • Resource investigation – Exploring digital techniques in Photoshop
  • Issue Exploration – Ethical use of Photoshop in society

Design Process and Solution - (50%)

  • Apply the design and realisation process in the design of either a novel or a magazine cover
