Who is this course for?

Students who want to learn to explore mediums and techniques, analyse artworks and express ideas through experimentation and resolved practical artworks.

What will I learn?

You may follow an Art or Design strand. You will have opportunities to explore the vast field of visual art and design forms that exist across diverse cultural and historical platforms including looking at contemporary art and design.

Creativity and artistic expression are central to the learning in art and design. You will be immersed in learning experiences that involve researching the work of artists and designers, developing personal ideas, and experimenting with practical methods and techniques in the production and evaluation of individual artworks and products.

You will have the opportunity to create resolved works which may include:

  • Art: Video, installation, assemblage, digital imaging, painting, drawing, mixed media, printmaking, photography, fabrication (wood, plastic, or metal), sculpture, ceramics, and textiles
  • Design: Product design: e.g. toy, fashion, furniture. Graphic and visual communication design: e.g. branding, illustration, and advertising

How will I be assessed?

You will demonstrate evidence of your learning through the following assessment types:

  • Folio - ideas and experimentation
  • Practical and Practitioner's Statement - major work using ideas in the folio
  • Visual Study - based on an art medium or design product (practical and some written)
