Who is this course for?

This course is for students who would like to explore traditional mediums including; watercolour, pencil, paint and pastels. This subject supports experimentation, risk-taking, and independent thinking, allowing students to develop their individual voice as artists. It also encourages cross-disciplinary connections within the creative arts, fostering a broader understanding of the role of art in contemporary society. Students will demonstrate their skill through a variety of weekly drawing tasks and practical artworks.

What will I learn?

  • Look at a range of mixed media and nature based artworks
  • Express your ideas through the use of experimentation with traditional and found materials
  • Learn to blend 2D and 3D techniques, develop visual storytelling, and reflect on how light, shadow, and material choices contribute to meaning in art
  • Learn to document and evaluate your creative process

How will I be assessed?

Assessment will be based on the Australian Curriculum, Visual Arts achievement standard.

Students will be assessed through:

  • Weekly skills tasks presented in a folio style
  • Three major art works
