Who is this course for?

Students interested in learning CAD- Computer Aided Drawing to design and 3D-Three Dimensional printing prototypes.

What will I learn

There are two aspects to this semester:

  • CAD
  • 3D Printing

You will learn skills in COMPUTER AIDED DRAWING AND DESIGN through the 3D modelling software package, Autodesk 123D Design. You will produce three-dimensional models of your design ideas.

Autodesk 123D Design is easy to learn, simple to use and fun to model with. You will use the program tutorials to learn some of the 123D drawing functions, and use research skills to develop and document creative and sustainable design ideas.

As you develop both tutorial and design models you will convert your designs and setup for 3D printing. After submitting your work the teacher will then 3D print your models and post them to you.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment against performance standards for this course will be based on:

  • understanding the issues related to sustainability
  • showing evidence of completing the steps of the design process
  • creating technical drawings on computer
  • research into materials
  • a final 3D printed product
