Who is this course for?

Through the investigation of a broad range of issues at the centre of current social debate Society and Culture allows you to become more informed about the social, political, economic and cultural factors that affect societies using critical literacy skills.
The experience of Society and Culture Stage 1 or any other Humanities subjects, would be an advantage.

What will I learn?

You will study the following units of work throughout the year:

  • Cultural Diversity: Students will have the opportunity to explore a range of different sub-cultures of a particular society to analyse how values and beliefs shape them critically.
  • Social Ethics: Students will have the opportunity to investigate and critically analyse a range of current ethical issues to determine how ethical codes of conduct are determined.
  • A Question of rights: Students are given the opportunity to evaluate the idea of human rights for all people by exploring the relationship between choice, rights and responsibilities.

You will demonstrate your learning through the following assessment types:

Internal 70%

  • Folio – Course work 50%
  • Interaction – Group and Oral tasks 20%

External 30%

  • Investigation 30%
